Calm Space Play Centres is an exciting and brand-new concept in specialised children’s play centres, specifically designed to provide a safe space for neurodiverse and cognitively impaired children. Consultation with prospective users and industry professionals has helped us to create a facility which will assist both the child and their family with access to sensory and stimulation needs, whilst providing easier access to professional services, networking opportunities and support.
Our plan is to expand nationally, with facilities in all cities and major regional centres as required. Facilities will be located in industrial areas, close to town centres.
Some living situations make it difficult for parents at various times of the day, especially if a child is having an autistic meltdown. These situations can often lead to strenuous and tumultuous circumstances with family and friends, housemates and partners, and even neighbours.
Our play centre concept is to provide 24-hour access with professionally designed and equipped individual playrooms. Sites will be located in industrial areas so late night activity does not cause issues with neighbours.
The individual playrooms in our facilities are roughly 9m² in size, resembling a home living space or large bedroom, and will be themed and designed in consultation with industry experts and community members.
The play rooms will offer various sensory equipment and play options, while parents will have the option to observe their child directly or relax in our Adult’s Retreat while maintaining visibility of their child through a closed-loop video system integrated into the mobile app. There will also be consulting rooms for practitioners to conduct their sessions, with necessary equipment available on-site.
Membership, facility access, booking, payment, professional services, music/lighting/television control, reporting, and video monitoring will all be done through our purpose-built mobile application.
Reporting of issues, damages or requests for additional equipment will also be available through the app. Where applicable, parents with access to NDIS funding, will also be able to select this option.
Safety and security is paramount, especially when accessing our facilities at night.
All facilities will have secure building access controlled via the app (approved access only), where possible, carpark area will be secured with automatic gates, areas will be well lit with floodlights, and roving security will be engaged 7 days per week, potentially even a dedicated after-hours on-site security person.
While our facilities will be designed to be as safe as possible, injuries and medical issues can always happen.
First Aid essentials will be available throughout the facilities, and emergency call points will be positioned around the facility with direct connection to emergency services.
General usage will be based on an hourly per-use model.
Practitioners can take advantage of a quarterly subscription, with reduced rates for hot office space.
We will partner with NDIS and, where applicable, customers can access these funds for through in-app plug-in.
The rooms are safe and specifically designed for various neurodiversity requirements, as well as a range of themes for the child from which to choose (trains, space, princess, under-the-sea, etc.). There will be reading/colouring rooms, movie rooms, crash rooms, sand pits, climbing rooms, interactive and imaginative play rooms. The rooms will contain toys, equipment and engagement products, as well as sensory specific toys and tools.
Rooms will have individually controlled Bluetooth speakers allowing parents to play the child’s favourite music during their visit.
Safe and easily accessible facilities in central locations, available 24 hours a day - bookings not essential. You will have the option to join your child in the play-room, observe from a seating area outside the room, or relax in our ‘Adults’ Retreat’ with a cup of tea or coffee and interact with other adults - while being able to maintain visibility of your child through a closed loop video camera, accessible only through their engaged room on our mobile app.
This creates opportunities for parents and carers to engage and interact with others in similar situations, allowing networking, support and helpful exchange of ideas.
We will also set up and run regular support, community, and information events. Available for parents, extended family and friends to attend. This will again bolster adult interaction, information, networking and support.
Many professionals and practitioners working within this field often travel to numerous locations in a single day to meet with their clients. Calm Space Play Centres will offer these professionals a central location to meet with clients, which offers all of the necessary space, equipment and privacy to conduct their sessions.
Practitioner usage will be available as part of a quarterly subscription model, and we will provide ‘hot offices’ for practitioners to conduct meetings with clients, or work in a quiet environment. Working from a central and fully equipped facility can increase productivity by up to 100%.
